I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. Our turned out well despite the crappy weather on the 4th. Is everyone bbq'd out? Is that even possible? If you made pork over the weekend and have some leftover this is the easiest way other than empanadas to use it up. You can go ahead and start the pork from scratch to make these also. Either way they are absolutely delicious. You have sweet ham, delicious roasted pork, swiss cheese, mustard and oh dill pickles all pressed and grilled together. I think I have found my new favorite sandwich like forever and ever. It's a total manwich to. He will love it. Mine did.
Here are your cast of characters. A very simple list of ingredients. How yummy does that all look? Can you imagine what it will taste like all pressed together? It really is that good!
6 cuban rolls, any dense roll will work
1/2 stick unsalted butter, softened
3 tablespoons yellow mustard, or to taste
1 1/2 pounds deli ham
1 1/2 pounds roasted pork , sliced
1 pound Swiss cheese, sliced
1 cup dill pickle chips
Assemble the sandwich
Spread equal amounts of butter on one half of each roll and a thin layer of mustard on the other. Place 1 to 2 layers of ham, pork, cheese, and, finally, pickles on the roll and put together.
Smear the remaining butter all over the outside of the sandwich and wrap it completely in aluminum foil.
Heat your grill or sandwich press to medium-high heat.
Before grilling the sandwich, press down on it with your hands to flatten it. Place the wrapped, flattened sandwich on the grill and top with a brick, grill press, or any other heavy, heat-resistant object. Close the lid and grill for 5 to 6 minutes per side.
Remove the wrapped sandwich from the grill and take off the foil. Return the sandwich to the grill and grill for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until both pieces of bread are crispy and golden brown.
Slice each sandwich in half and serve.
