Oh these little guys.
Who in the world would ever thing grape jelly
and chili sauce would taste so good together?
Certainly not me.
A friend brought these over for new years they were pretty darn good.
She made hers with frozen meatballs.
I tend not to be a fan of the mystery meat so I made my version from scratch.
I also added the taco seasoning just to bump up the flavor a little more.
These are great for your Superbowl Sunday party!
For the meatballs:
1 cup breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons dried onion
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Kosher salt and freshly ground white pepper
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
3/4 pound lean ground beef
1/2 pound lean ground pork
1 large egg, beaten
1 jar (12oz) grape jelly
1 jar (12oz) Chili Sauce (Heinz)
4 tablespoons taco seasoning
In a bowl mix the grape jelly with the chili sauce and taco seasoning. Pour into slow cooker and turn heat on low.
Place all the ingredients for the meatballs in a large bowl and mix until combined. Start rolling the meatballs, I make mine small for this recipe so I would say a little smaller than a golf ball.
Heat a large non-stick skillet with 1 tablespoon of oil over medium high heat. Brown the meatballs on each side. You wont be cooking them through. Remove and set place in slow cooker in sauce.
Cook on low for 4-5 hours. Serve with toothpicks.
