Who does not like a good boozy steak sauce? I know I sure do. These little bad boys are a perfect weeknight, weekend, lunch or dinner meal. Serve them along side a nice veggie and a starch. Perfect for back to school and a busy schedule.
1/2 cup reduced-sodium beef broth
3 tablespoons whiskey
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
1 large shallot, finely chopped
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
1 pound skirt steak or any other thinly sliced steak
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1 large vidalia onion, sliced
8 slider buns
crumbled blue cheese, optional
Preheat grill to medium-high.
Combine broth, whiskey, mustard, brown sugar, ketchup, shallot, Worcestershire and thyme in a small saucepan; bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook, stirring frequently, until reduced to about 1/2 cup, 6 to 10 minutes. Remove from the heat.
Heat 1 teaspoon butter in a medium skillet over medium high heat. Add onion, sprinkle with salt and saute until it gets slightly caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
Sprinkle steak with salt and pepper. Grill the steak 1 1/2 to 3 minutes per side for medium. Remove from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes.
Thinly slice steak add to buns and top with steak sauce onions and blue cheese crumbles.
